About Pacta
Pacta is a Bengaluru-based boutique law and policy think tank dedicated to supporting civil society organisations, non-profits, philanthropies, and public interest institutions. Pacta works at the intersection of legal consulting, compliance, institutional governance, and policy research. Our work spans legal risk mitigation for the social sector, philanthropy, disability and technology policy, AI governance, and capacity building for India’s social sector.
At Pacta, we believe that rigorous legal and policy work must reach the people it is meant to serve. We are hiring a Design Associate who will help us translate complex research into compelling, accessible, and beautiful visual communication.
The Role
The Design Associate will be the creative engine behind how Pacta communicates its work to the world. This is not a purely executional design role. We are looking for someone who can read a policy brief, understand its argument, and decide how to make it land visually.
You will work closely with the founding team to produce design collateral across print, digital, and interactive formats, and will anchor workshops on visual communication and knowledge dissemination.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Production
Design research reports, policy briefs, and long-form publications, from layout to print-ready output.
Create newsletters and email communications that are visually engaging and on-brand.
Develop social media collaterals across platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and X/Twitter, tailored to the audience and format.
Conceptualise and produce comics, zines, and illustrated explainers that make legal and policy content accessible to non-specialist audiences.
Support the development and upkeep of Pacta’s website, contributing to UI/UX design and content presentation. Prior knowledge or experience in this area is a significant plus.
Assist with branding consistency across all Pacta outputs and communications.
Knowledge Dissemination and Workshops
Anchor and co-design workshops on visual communication, research dissemination, and knowledge translation for civil society partners and social sector audiences.
Develop training materials, workbooks, and slide decks for Pacta’s capacity-building programmes.
Collaborate with the research team to identify the most effective visual format for each knowledge product.
Contribute ideas for how Pacta’s policy and legal work can reach wider audiences through creative formats.
What We Are Looking For
Skills and Tools
Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Comfort with designing across formats, including long-form documents, social media, digital newsletters, and print.
Ability to read, synthesise, and visually interpret dense written content in English, including legal, policy, or social science material.
An eye for typography, hierarchy, and visual storytelling, not just decoration.
Experience with or interest in illustration, comics, zines, or non-traditional knowledge formats is highly valued.
UI/UX knowledge for website design and content experience is a significant plus. Prior experience with tools such as Figma or Wix would be an advantage.
Qualities We Value
Genuine curiosity and willingness to engage with law, policy, and social impact.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with varying timelines.
Comfort anchoring workshops or presentations, as this role involves public-facing facilitation.
Collaborative spirit and openness to feedback from a small, fast-moving team.
A portfolio that demonstrates range. We want to see how you think, not just what you can execute.
Qualifications
A degree or diploma in Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Freshers with strong portfolios are encouraged to apply. We are as interested in your potential and interests as in your experience.
Prior work in the development sector, civil society, or public interest communications is an advantage but not a requirement.
Location, Compensation and Start
Location: Pacta’s Bengaluru office
Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Starting range: ₹6–7 lakh per annum.
Start Date: Immediate, or at the earliest convenience of the selected candidate.
Contract Type: Full-time employment. Fixed-term engagement may also be considered.
