The Opportunity:

Creative Designer / Visual Designer

  • Organisation: The Policy Front

  • Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka

  • Type: Full-time, In-office

  • Industry: Public Policy, Political Communication, Government Communication & Creative Strategy

About The Policy Front
The Policy Front is a Bengaluru-based public policy, political communication and creative consulting organisation working at the intersection of governance, politics, strategy, technology and communication.

Our work involves translating complex policies, government initiatives, political narratives and public-interest issues into communication that millions of people can understand and engage with.

We are building a stronger in-house creative team and are looking for designers who don't just know how to use design software, but have exceptional visual taste, curiosity and the ability to think conceptually.

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a Creative Designer / Visual Designer who can take an idea, a piece of information or sometimes even a complicated policy document and turn it into a powerful visual.

We don't want someone who simply waits for instructions such as:

  • "Put this photograph here, add this headline and use this colour."

We want designers who can read a brief and ask:

  • "What's the most interesting way to communicate this?"

You should be someone who notices great advertising, saves interesting campaigns, obsesses over typography or composition, experiments with new visual styles and constantly looks for better ways to communicate an idea.

What You'll Work On
You will work across:

  • Government and public-policy communication

  • Political and public leadership communication

  • Large-scale campaigns

  • Social-media campaigns and digital communication

  • Branding and visual identities

  • Data visualisation and infographics

  • Posters and digital creatives

  • Editorial and information design

  • Campaign key visuals

  • Presentation and report design

  • Short-form digital content

  • Creative concepts for events and public initiatives

  • Experimental and AI-assisted visual communication

The work can range from creating a visual explaining a major government policy to developing the visual language for an entire statewide campaign.

What We Expect From You

  • Creative thinking comes first.

You should be able to:

  • Translate abstract ideas into strong visual concepts.

  • Generate multiple creative directions for the same brief.

  • Understand the communication objective before starting the design.

  • Create work that can capture attention in a crowded social-media environment.

  • Demonstrate strong typography, composition, hierarchy and colour sense.

  • Simplify complex information without making it visually boring.

  • Develop campaign-level visual systems rather than only individual posters.

  • Work with writers, strategists, video teams and campaign teams.

  • Take feedback without losing the core creative idea.

  • Work quickly when required while maintaining a high visual standard.

  • Follow contemporary design, advertising, culture and visual trends.

  • Experiment with new design techniques and AI-enabled creative tools.

What Matters More Than Your Degree
We care much more about your portfolio and how you think than where you studied.

You may come from graphic design, communication design, advertising, branding, illustration, editorial design, motion design or another creative discipline.

Formal design education is welcome, but not mandatory.

Similarly, previous experience in politics or government communication is not required. In fact, we welcome designers from advertising, branding, consumer brands, media, culture, music, fashion, startups and independent creative practices who can bring a fresh visual language to public communication.

Tools
You should be comfortable with relevant professional design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and/or Figma.

Experience with After Effects, Blender, Cinema 4D, illustration, photography, generative AI or other creative tools is an advantage.

However, software proficiency alone will not qualify someone for this role.

Ideas, visual judgment and execution matter much more.

What We're NOT Looking For
We are not looking for someone whose work is limited to:

  • Repetitive social-media templates

  • Simply placing photographs and text into predefined layouts

  • Copying references without developing an original interpretation

  • Depending entirely on Canva/templates

  • Waiting for someone else to provide every visual idea

We want someone who contributes to the idea itself.

Experience
We are open to both exceptionally talented young designers and experienced creative professionals.

Your portfolio will carry significantly more weight than your number of years of experience.

Portfolio Requirement
Please share a portfolio containing your best work, not necessarily your most work.

We would particularly like to see:

  • 3–5 projects you are genuinely proud of

  • Concept-driven visual work

  • Branding or campaign work

  • Experimental/personal projects

  • Work demonstrating typography and composition

  • Projects where you contributed to the original creative idea

For at least one project, we'd love to understand the thinking behind the final design, not just see the finished output.

Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to participate in a short creative exercise.

The exercise will primarily evaluate:

  • Originality → Conceptual Thinking → Visual Taste → Communication → Execution

We are not interested in testing how quickly you can operate software. We want to understand how you think as a designer.

Why Join The Policy Front?
Designing for public communication is different from designing another product advertisement.

Your work can become part of conversations involving cities, governments, public policy, political leadership and millions of citizens.

You will have the opportunity to work on unusually diverse briefs and build communication from the idea stage rather than simply execute somebody else's layouts.

Most importantly, we want to build a creative environment where a designer can say:

  • "There's a better way to communicate this."

And then be given the opportunity to show us.
